Charles R. Morris Student Research Award

 
Purpose
 

The American Academy of Oral and Maxillofacial Radiology Charles R. Morris Student Research Award is designed to encourage new investigators, not yet professionally established, to participate in research to further knowledge in oral and maxillofacial radiology, to develop competency in research and to gain insight into scientific investigation.  The objective is to stimulate the scientific development of promising students and to encourage them to embark on a career in academic oral and maxillofacial radiology.

 
Award
 
The recipient of the award will receive:
  • $1,000.00
  • A certificate
  • Free registration at the upcoming Annual Meeting of the American Academy of Oral and Maxillofacial Radiology, including the Continuing Education Session and Annual Banquet.
  • An invitation to present the research paper at the Annual Session.
  • Free Student Membership in the Academy, including a one-year subscription to Oral Surgery, Oral Medicine, Oral Pathology, Oral Radiology and Endodontics. 
 
Eligibility
 

The Research Award will be open to candidates from accredited dental and dental hygiene programs who, at the time the research was carried out, were full-time pre-doctoral or undergraduate students.  The manuscript must be accompanied by a nomination from the institution in which the research was carried out.

 
Selection Criteria
 

Applicants will be judged by members of the Awards Committee of the American Academy of Oral and Maxillofacial Radiology according to the following criteria:

1.   Clarity of conceptual definition
2.   Adequacy of literature review
3.   Originality
4.   Soundness of methodology
5.   Significance of contribution to the science of oral and maxillofacial radiology
6.   Manuscript format and style

Students are strongly encouraged to secure faculty guidance in designing the research project, in determining the extent of the literature review and in composing the manuscript.  The selection criteria identified above are evaluated critically by the Selection Committee.
Faculty advisors are encouraged to provide guidance and encouragement to interested students in sound research design and to provide critical evaluation of their efforts with the goal of entering a competitive manuscript.
