ABOMR review course has been designed to
help the oral and maxillofacial radiology residents prepare for the Part I and
Part II radiology board exam. The course consists of four days of lecture with
the first two days allocated to the Part I (Physics and radiation biology and
protection) and the last two days to the Part II (Interpretation).

This course is a
comprehensive review, as such a basic knowledge of topics will be assumed.

Faculty: Dr. Walter Huda, Dr. Axel Ruprecht and Dr.
Veeratrishul Allareddy (Appendix 1)

Format: Review of board topics as specified in the
Study Guide and as outlined in the ABOMR section of the AAOMR website: http://c.ymcdn.com/sites/www.aaomr.org/resource/resmgr/ABOMR/StudyGuideForCandidates2010.pdf

Dr. Huda will review radiation physics, radiation biology, digital radiology and
principles of advanced imaging (MRI, CT, Ultrasound, etc) with an expanded
emphasis given on CT and MRI topics, radiation dosimetry and radiation
protection.

Dr. Axel Ruprecht and Dr. Veeratrishul Allareddy will review principles of
CBCT, interpretive methods as well as the pathophysiology concepts of various
diseases by projecting cases and engaging residents to participate in board
style question and answers. These cases are designed to review successful
strategies and common pitfalls.

Dr. Huda
trained in England (Physics
BA at Oxford University;
Medical Physics PhD at the Hammersmith Hospital/University of London) and worked from 1976-81 at Amersham
International, a commercial company specializing in radioactive products. He has worked as a diagnostic medical
physicist at the Manitoba Cancer Treatment and Research Foundation in Winnipeg, Canada
(1982-1990), University of Florida in Gainesville,
Florida (1990-1997) and at SUNY Upstate
Medical University
in Syracuse, NY (1997-2007). He is currently Professor of Radiology at the
Medical University of South Carolina.

Dr. Huda
is actively involved in the clinical use of medical imaging equipment,
particularly maximizing the diagnostic information while keeping patient doses
as low as reasonably achievable (ALARA). Dr Huda’s primary research activities relate
to medical imaging and radiation dosimetry. Since the early 1980’s, Dr Huda
pioneered the use of the effective dose to quantify the radiation dose received
by patients undergoing radiological examinations that use ionizing radiation. Dr. Huda has also developed quantitative
methods for quantifying imaging performance. Dr. Huda is currently actively
involved in the use of Alternative Forced Choice (AFC) methods for measuring
imaging performance in CT, and investigating the trade off between dose and
image quality in this imaging modality. Dr.
Huda has published over 200 scientific papers and has been awarded 24 research
grants with a total value approaching $4 million.

Dr. Huda
has is actively involved with the physics education of radiology residents, and
is the author of the best-selling Review
of Radiologic Physics. He has been
awarded numerous awards for teaching radiology residents (e.g., Silver Spoon;
Robert E Heitzman), and is frequently invited to speak to Radiology departments
as a Visiting Professor. He is a Fellow of the
American Association of Physicists in Medicine, and an Honorary Member of the Society of Pediatric Radiology. Dr. Huda reviews for many imaging journals
(e.g., Medical Physics, Radiology and AJR), and has been involved on the editorial boards of number of
national journals (e.g., Radiology,
Medical Physics, Pediatric Radiology) as well as international journals
(British Journal of Radiology, J of Ukrainian Radiology). Dr. Huda is currently
helping to write a report on Dose and Image Quality in CT for the International Commission on Radiological
Units and Measurements (ICRU).

Dr. Trishul Allareddy is an Oral and Maxillofacial
Radiologist. He joined the University of
Iowa College of Dentistry and Dental Clinics in 2008 after completing his
residency and having spent a little more than a year as a consultant to a
private imaging company. He is currently
a Clinical Associate Professor in the Department of Oral Pathology, Radiology
and Medicine and the Department of Radiology at the University of Iowa.
He is actively involved in running the
Oral and Maxillofacial Radiology residency program. His expertise and interest is in the use of
technology in Dentistry. He serves on
several collegiate, university, national and international committees. He is currently the American Dental
Association and American
Academy of Oral and
Maxillofacial Radiology (AAOMR) representative to DICOM and co-chair of Standards
and Codes Committee for the AAOMR. He is
also a consultant for the Commission of Dental Accreditation. Dr. Allareddy is
involved in several research projects with residents and faculty members at the
College of Dentistry. He is a reviewer for nine peer reviewed
Journals in Dentistry and Medicine. His primary areas of interest in research
are related to health care outcomes of various conditions in and around the
oral and maxillofacial regions and advanced imaging in the oral and
maxillofacial regions as it applies to dentistry. Currently he is one of the
two Diplomates of the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Radiology in the
State of Iowa.
His interests include raising awareness
about the use of advanced imaging to the dentists around the country. He has more than 100 invited presentations
including those at local, state, national and international organizations. He shares a private practice in Oral and
Maxillofacial Radiology with Dr. Axel Ruprecht, who is his mentor and
colleague.
