Basic CBCT Level 1 Course

The American Academy of Oral & Maxillofacial Radiology has developed courses for CBCT users. These courses are designed to instruct general dentists and specialists on the management of CBCT data, selection criteria and CBCT diagnostic applications.

September 28 - October 1, 2016 in Scottsdale, AZ



This course will provide the practitioner with a thorough knowledge of the principles behind CBCT, including: CBCT image and technique selection; reducing radiation risk; understanding 3D anatomical variations; recognizing key pathological processes; and the process of CBCT interpretation and reporting.

By the end of the course, participants will be able to:

  • Understand the basic principles of CBCT
  • Appreciate the risks associated with ionizing radiation and how to minimize exposure
  • Recognize when to prescribe CBCT scans based upon high-yield criteria and minimized radiation dose
  • Review associated anatomy and the basics of pathology
  • Provide basic interpretation to create a report of CBCT images and identify when to refer for a second opinion or over-read
