Program Description

The College will offer a 30-month program of academic course work, clinical training and research experience, starting July 01, 2013, leading to a Certificate in Oral and Maxillofacial Radiology (OMFR), and conferring eligibility to challenge the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Radiology examination. Up to four residents will be accepted each year. Eligible applicants must hold a DDS or DMD degree from an accredited dental college in the US or its equivalent from foreign institutions. It is desirable for all internationally educated applicants to have the results of Part I of the American Dental Association National Board of Dental Examinations prior to application. Additionally, TOEFL is required. Graduate Record Examination (GRE) scores are preferred. GRE and National Board scores are not essential for acceptance.

The OMFR program provides comprehensive training in clinical skills, teaching and research. The program will also prepare students for the board examination by the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Radiology. The program prepares graduates for a career in academia or private practice. UF does not offer a PhD in Oral and Maxillofacial Radiology. It is possible to combine Oral and Maxillofacial Radiology training with a PhD in Oral Biology. Contact the Department of Oral Biology for information on the PhD program.

A diverse clinical education is provided by board-certified radiologists, and several full-time medical radiologists, with rotations in neuroradiology/head and neck radiology. Clinical experience includes protocoling, acquiring and reading conventional and advanced imaging studies including cone beam CTs, as well as interpreting MDCT, MRI, nuclear medicine studies, and ultrasound. Residents will attend the Otolaryngology multi-disciplinary conference on a weekly basis. Residents choose a research topic and conduct research under the guidance of OMFR faculty, presenting their research at national meetings of the American Academy of Oral and Maxillofacial Radiology, Radiologic Society of North America, American Society of Head and Neck Radiology, and/or Society for Imaging Informatics in Medicine. Research must be published in peer reviewed journals.

There is no tuition for residents qualifying for Graduate Medical Education (GME) support. This is contingent upon continued support through the GME program. A stipend of $1000 per year is available per resident. All internationally educated applicants will be required to pay tuition and fees. Current application deadline is October 15, 2013.
